Estero, formerly a citrus community, is now a village in Lee County between Fort Myers and Bonita Springs that is home to Hertz Arena, Florida Gulf Coast University, Koreshan State Park, Miromar Outlets, Coconut Point Mall and many beautiful golf courses. In the 15th century, Spanish explorers and pirates travelled along the coast of Southwest Florida with their treasure-filled ships. They called the area "Estero," the Spanish word for estuary.
